The Greater Kansas City area has a proud tradition of neighborhoods and a strong network of homes associations to protect that legacy. Homes Associations of Kansas City (HAKC) is an alliance of52 homeowners associations. HAKC includes associations on both sides of State Line.
Some people call homes associations the most representative and responsive form of democracy found in America today. Residents of a neighborhood freely elect neighbors to serve on the Board of Directors of the neighborhood. Numerous other owners or residents serve on committees or help with special tasks as they arise. Board members and committee members are volunteer leaders who meet regularly to discuss pertinent details about running their neighborhood. A board meeting at a homes association is comparable to a town council meeting of a municipality.
Professionals atHAKC assist the unpaid volunteers that comprise homes association boards. HAKC is a not-for-profit entity that was created in 1944 to handle the full-time accounting and administrative requirements of member homes associations.
