The Vedanta Society of Kansas City was founded in 1947 by Swami Satprakashananda. The swami had also founded the Vedanta Society of St Louis in 1938 and was its head until his passing in 1979. Swami Satprakashananda was a disciple of Swami Brahmananda, a direct disciple of Sri Ramakrishna (1836-1886). This Society is a subcenter of the Vedanta Society of St Louis and is affiliated with the Ramakrishna Order of India.
Swami Chetanananda, a monk of the Ramakrishna Order of India, is the minister of the Vedanta Society of St. Louis and the Vedanta Society of Kansas City. He is headquartered in St. Louis and comes to Kansas City regularly to conduct spiritual retreats and give talks on spiritual life. Interviews with the swami are by appointment. He also gives spiritual instruction to those sincerely interested in spiritual practice.
