We still offer new computers with XP Home!
Because times are tough, my factory representative still allows me to get new computers with XP pre-installed, because that is what my customers have consistently preferred, and the factory is anxious to satisfy that need. XP is stable and compatible with all the software out there as well as all of the hardware, and runs on a reasonable amount of memory (unlike Vista). If your home or business relies on your existing software and equipment, we are going to continue offering good old XP for awhile.
We will probably start in with some Windows 7 computers, but the jury is still out, to me "7" looks like "Vista fixed", but as always we will continue to offer XP.

CISNET computers are assembled in the USA by the tens of thousands for corporate, government and educational institutions. Building on the foundation of the Genuine Intel processor, these offer quality and reliability at a value packed price. We support the American worker!

Welcome to The Computer Place website!
The Computer Place is located at 301 W. Washington Avenue, Suite #4, just across the street from the Post Office here in Ava. The Computer Place is dedicated to providing you with your computer repair and sales needs. We also carry a full inventory of computer parts, and can order or build custom systems to your specifications. We do onsite service calls, or you can save some money by bringing in your computer tower to our fully equipped shop.
As always, the emphasis is on service, whether it's the computer you use at home or the one on your business network.

This is Glen's story: I was A+ certified by CompTIA, the national body that oversees the certification of computer service technicians, right after graduating from Vatterott College. I guess I was "lucky" in a funny sort of way when we here in Ava lost our jobs at Rawlings to foreign competition, as this qualified us for the schooling. I was on the Transition Team at Rawlings to encourage the folks there to get the schooling, and then I realized I should take my own advice. In any event, I am very grateful that the Guy Upstairs was looking out for us. I completed the Vatterott College Computer Technology program with honors.
After I graduated, I was hired by T.C.Shearer, Inc. here in Ava, as their computer technician for 1 1/2 years, just after The Computer Place came into being. You may remember when we were located across the street from the White River Electric office on 2nd Ave, or when we moved across the street from the Ford Dealership on S. Jefferson. Now we are here across the street from the Post Office, but Terry decided to move on to bigger and better things, so I bought The Computer Place from him, so that local residents of Douglas County would still have the same good service we always tried to provide from the beginning. And as time has gone by, that service has gotten better than ever!
Bottom line: I have the experience and training to repair your computer in a timely and cost effective manner. For business customers, I am trained to handle your networking needs, with a mind toward making your business computing environment as efficient as possible, so that you can get the most productivity out of your equipment investment. I welcome the opportunity to take bids on your next computer or networking project. A lot of my customers ask me for advice on such things as to backing up their data, networking and so forth. That is what I am here for. If there is anything at all that I can do to help you, I will certainly give it my very best effort.
My mission is service!

Pictured above is a Systemax system on the left and an Ultra system on the right. Systemax and Ultra are the same, one being the retail brand you will find online and the other the wholesale brand offered by authorized distributors like The Computer Place. Assembled in the USA, these also feature American technical support. I believe in the American worker. Systemax and Ultra do not outsource their support overseas like Dell, HP and others do. Your tech support is always local. All of our Systemax, Ultra & Nobilis computers have genuine Intel Pentium 4 processors, unless you request otherwise. They all carry a full 1-year factory warranty. We also build many custom systems for folks that ask. If you have ever visited some of the largest mail order computer companies in the world on the Internet, you will probably recognize the Systemax name. The Computer Place buys Systemax & Ultra computers like the ones pictured above directly from the maufacturer, so your small town local Computer Place is competing head to head with the big boys! Not that they would ever feel threatened by a little gnat like The Computer Place, but we do buy directly from the manufacturer, not from the dealers. And we pass the savings on to you.

We can help you with any questions regarding your new desktop or laptop computer. We can custom configure any of the CISNET or Systemax line of computers per your needs, so if you have in mind certain features, software bundle requirements, or extended warranties, just let us know, and we can work up an exact price for that specific system. Also please feel free to ask us about any of the parts and accessories we have on hand or that we can order for you.
For those of you who would like to have a go at building your own systems, we carry ATX 11-Bay Mid-Tower cases complete with 300W power supply, one beige and one black. $39.50 for either one.

Don't have a computer or access to the Internet yet? The Computer Place Internet Caf offers you the use of four computers for your Internet needs, with access to scanners and printers. These computers are hooked up to our high-speed DSL connection provided by CenturyTel, so those of you who want to come in and browse the Internet, play games, make downloads, and burn CDs and DVDs, are welcome to come in and use the facilities. We have extended language support. If you have a laptop, we can hook you up by wire or wireless. Those of you who have dialup service will really appreciate the ability to do work so fast. It's a great place to come in and work on your computer research and schoolwork projects, when the aid of high-speed Internet access is needed.
Each of these computers is loaded with Windows XP Professional, as well as Microsoft Office 2003 (which includes Word, Excel, Publisher and Powerpoint).

Games: (In-house) $2.00/Hr. (Online): Same as regular Internet rate
Each of the gaming computers are equipped with video cards for a realistic display of textures and good frame rates. They are also networked together for side-by-side gaming fun. In our LAN games, up to four participants can play against each other. You will see your buddies on your screen playing against you. We are currently offering such games as NASCAR Thunder 2004, NASCAR HEAT, NHRA Drag Racing 2, Starcraft, Roller Coaster Tycoon, Delta Force 2, Comanche 4, Armored Force 3, F-16 Multi-Role Fighter, Flight Simulator, Combat Flight Simulator Pacific Theater, Renegade, Red Alert 2, and Yuri's Revenge. We have force feedback steering wheels and floor pedals as well as high quality aircraft type force feedback twist motion joysticks for a realistic experience.

So drop in and fill out our quick form and get gaming or go online! You can get your email whenever you drop in, and you are only charged for the actual time you use the computer, even if it is only for a few minutes, and you can save what's left for the next time.
Be sure to take a look at our Useful Tips page where computer users can find a lot of useful information.
Also, please feel free to visit the Computer Forum, by clicking on the "Forum" button. This discussion forum is a place to ask questions of your fellow county computer users, to post answers, to search by subject, and follow different threads. By sharing common experiences, computer users can help each other get over some of those little hurdles that seem to crop up in day-to-day computer use.
