Our nation will soon celebrate Thanksgiving, a time of gratitude for God’s goodness in our lives. It is also a time to reflect on the needs of those who are struggling. Here in southern Missouri, poverty is no stranger. The 39 counties that make up the Diocese of Springfield-Cape Girardeau are among the poorest in the state, with the average household income at just over $29,000.
We don’t have to go very far to encounter the plight of the poor.
Many struggles the poor face heavily impact the family, leading to dysfunction. This adversely affects children and weakens marriages. Because of the importance of the family, Catholic Charities of Southern Missouri was intentionally formed in order assist families in obtaining charitable social services to strengthen the family unit; in effect, getting the most “bang” for the buck. >>Read More
