Welcome to the Congregation Beth Shalom website. Congregation Beth Shalom, or CBS , is comprised of approximately 145 member families from all over mid-Missouri. Located in Columbia, MO, we are one of the few Jewish congregations in the entire region. Although we are associated with the Union of Reform Judaism, we strive to meet the needs of the entire Jewish community. Rabbi Yossi Feintuch leads our spiritual endeavors and serves as a liaison to other religious communities of mid-Missouri. We have active educational programs for both adults and youth, with religious school begining at the pre-school age and extending through high school. Our efforts at Tikkun Olam remain an important part of our congregational efforts.

Shabbat Services - Additions
Beginning with Shabbat June 11/12, Rabbi Feintuch will offer additional services just before the regularly-scheduled times. For Erev Shhabbat (Friday night), at 5:30 pm we will begin with Mincha, the afternoon service that includes the full weekday Amidah and Ashrei (Psalm 145). Regular Erev Shabbat services will begin at 6:00 pm through the winter.
For Shabbat (Saturday) morning, we will begin at 10:00 am with the Morning Blessings and the Verses of Praise. Regular Shabbat morning services will begin at 10:30 am with the Barechu (Call to Worship) that opens the Shacharit service. Thus, if you wish to offer the preliminary Brachot (Blessings) that precede the Barechu, come at 10:00 a.m. and if you wish to begin with Shacharit, join us by 10:30 a.m.
We'll try out this new arrangement for a while and decide whether to continue based on the wishes of the majority of attendees. Please contact Rabbi Feintuch to contribute your input.
In Memory of Bob and Phoebe Goodman
The CBS Board has approved the creation of a memorial garden to honor Bob and Phoebe Goodman, beginning with the area on the right of the front door of the new building. Hanna Klachko and Deborah Zemke have agreed to spearhead this project. Because it is a shaded area, proposed plants include hostas, green ferns, Japanese ferns, astilbe and impatiens. A placque will be included in the garden to remind us all of this wonderful couple and all they did to establish our Jewish community. For this project to be successful, Hanna and Deborah request donations of labor, plants, mulch, compost, fertilizer and even money - all are appreciated. Please contact either Hanna or Deb with your contributions.
CBS holds services each Friday evening and Saturday morning. In general, Friday evening services start at 7:30 during daylight savings time and at 6 pm through the winter, while Saturday morning services start at 10:30. There are frequent exceptions to the rule for special events, however. Please consult the calendar for the exceptions, or feel free to call the office at 573-449-4855.
