The building at 401 Broadway in Elsberry, Missouri has been honored by the Lincoln County Historical Society as a historically preserved site. The cabinetry on either side of the store as well as the ceiling fans, flooring, soda fountain, counter and stools are all original to the building. The outside awning is a reproduction of the awning in the early 1940s. As best as it can be determined, the soda fountain was installed in the early 1940s when Liquid Carbonic fountains were common combinations with pharmacies.
A former coal bin at the rear of the stores boasts a quaint private room now being utilized for parties and small group gatherings. Outside the back room is a patio surrounded by an antique iron fence. This area is enjoyed by many, as outside seating is available spring through fall.
This building is a landmark in the town of Elsberry and has housed more than 120 years of businesses seeking to benefit the community. The current proprietors wish to carry on the tradition of service to the community and wish to express their gratitude to the previous owners enabling the building and the soda fountain to be restored to earlier "glory days."
