Dr. Joseph Kappes also serves as chairman of the Japan Karate-do Ryobu-Kai Medical Committee as well as serving on JKR's Board of Directors. He has been a student and teacher of traditional karatedo for more than 40 years. Dr. Kappes is currently ranked through Japan as a 7th degree black belt (Nanadan). During one of his many trips to Japan he was honored with the shogo title (shihan title) Renshi.
