Well, the dust has settled a little since last weeks Nov. 2 election. But more will be stirred up quickly, I imagine.
Thats what happens when one party administers a rear-end whipping like the one the Republicans doled out to the Democrats last week at pretty much every level of government across the land.
This means changes of course, though not so much at the County level. Though Republicans pulled a clean sweep of all County officeholder elections, County taxpayers shouldnt notice too much difference in services offered by those offices. Political affiliation means little when it comes to how the County auditor, collector and clerk - which are now held by newcomers Kevin Robinson, Sheila Palmer and Joan Harms, respectively - perform their jobs. The services their offices provide are state-mandated and they are more-or-less office managers.

Some fought the Battle of the Bulge, others battled tedium in posts never written about in the history books.
Theyre all soldiers. Im thinking of all who were once in the service on this Veterans Day.
Its easy for me to think this week of the GIs who fought the Nazis across Europe or the Marines who battled the Japanese in the Pacific during World War II. My father was in the U.S. Army in Europe during that war so my thoughts always go there first when Veterans Day arrives.
But that war was also fought in places and countries beyond the headlines, and many amazing stories were buried deep in the history that came down to those of us born after the war. There was incredible variety in how and where veterans served in that war.

Much like those they honor, the Patriot Guard Riders (PGR) have one core value to their mission respect.
Our organization is designed specifically to honor fallen heroes whether they were killed in action or veterans, said Platte County resident Bob Sever, a Kansas City area ride captain and former senior official for the PGR.
The organizations secondary mission is to protect the mourning family and their friends from disruptions and outside parties.

No injuries were reported after two northbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) Railways freight trains collided in extreme Northwest Platte County Sunday morning.
The accident occurred just after 10 a.m. on BNSF tracks that run parallel to Hwy. 45 in Northwest Platte County, several miles north of Snow Creek and the Iatan power plant and just south of the Buchanan County line. The collision involved a 110-car grain train and a 78-car ethanol train and caused some of the cars from each train to derail.
Pat Pospisil, owner of Pats Steakhouse Restaurant, located less than 100 yards from the collision site, said she was going about business as usual when she heard a big boom.

The Platte County Prosecutors Office alleges a Weston woman was under the influence of drugs and alcohol last spring when she wrecked the car she was driving and a passenger in her vehicle was killed.
Katie Stelljes, 28, is accused of involuntary manslaughter after allegedly driving over the speed limit on Highway 273 near Weston on May 2.
Platte County Prosecuting Attorney Eric Zahnd said charges were filed Nov. 2 following an investigation by the Platte County Sheriffs Department.

The string of burglaries in Platte County, and all over the metro, may be at an end with the arrest of five suspects within approximately the last week.
Ranging in age from 19 to 36, the suspects were picked up across the Kansas City metro area for various offenses and are now under investigation for the burglary rash during September and October.

The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold a local public hearing in Platte City Nov. 17 in a sewer rate case filed by the Timber Creek Sewer Company.
