Dr. Jerry Morris, our clinical director is a clinical psychologist, board certified family psychologist, board certified school psychologist; board certified counselor, and an AAMFT Approved Supervisor and Clinical Member of the American Association of Family Therapy. Dr. Morris holds the APA National College Certificate of Proficiency in the Treatment of Substance Abuse and Other Psychoactive Substance Use Disorders, is a member of the National Academy of Neuropsychology, is an elected member of the National Academy of Practice in Psychology, is a Board Certified Case Manager and is Past President and Fellow of the Missouri Psychological Association. He has completed a postdoctoral residency in Family Psychology and postdoctoral training in neuropsychology. Dr. Morris holds ABPP board certification in Family Psychology and is the current Newsletter Editor of the ABPP Academy of Family Psychology.
He is licensed in both Missouri and Kansas.
He has served on the Council of Representatives and the Finance Committee of the American Psychological Association. He is the current Chair of the APA Division of Psychologists in Independent Practice Hospital & Health Care Facilities Committee, and the Missouri Insurance, MC, and Hospital committee. Dr. Morris is a recipient of the Heiser Award for distinguished psychology practice advocacy on a national level.
His most recent book is Practicing Psychology in Rural Settings (APA Books and also available at the Barnes & Noble Web Site). His professional writings are in the areas of addictions, ethics, professional practice, neuropsychology, health and mental health policy, and training. He is a widely sought speaker who has provided workshops and training nationally. His recent publications (2005) include book reviews for Psychology Critiques (an APA Journal); Kunen, S., Niederhauser, R., Smith, P. O., Morris, J. A., Marx, B. (2005). Race disparities in psychiatric rates in emergency departments. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 73 (1), pp. 116-126.; an article entitled Biological Advances and Family Psychology, Academy of Family Psychology Newsletter; and three in press articles (in consort with colleagues from MSU) in Public Personnel Management, a journal of the International Public Management Association for Human Resources (Psychological Testing in Personnel Selection: Part I: A Centruy of Psychological Testing; Part II: The Refinement of Methods and Standards in Employee Selection; Part III: The Resurgence of Personality Testing).
Dr. Morris is currently a graduate student in the Louisiana cohort of Alliant Universitys post-doctoral degree program in psychopharmacology at Baton Rouge. He is a past board member of APA Division 55, Pharmacology, and was on the original APA Level II task force on psychopharmacology.
Dr. Morris also operates a management consulting firm (Morris & Morris, Inc.,mailto:morris49@ipa.net which specializes in evaluation, enhancement, and sale of health and mental health facilities and advises on contracts for very specialized clients (see Morris & Morris section of this web site: http://www.cmhconline.com/Morris4.htm). Dr. Morris has written and negotiated two CONs for hospitals, has taken several hospitals through initial and subsequent accreditation with Medicaid, Medicare, JCAHO and other certifying bodies, and has selected, trained, and supervised numerous hospital and community mental health center staffs.
Dr. Morris has owned a psychiatric hospital and several community mental health centers. He has been involved in clinical program development and evaluation for over 20 years, has written and managed federal, state, and private grants and contracts, and has been a consultant to health facility sales and valuation.
He has served on the Board of Directors of a doctoral psychology school, as the Vice President of a Professional School of Psychology, and as the Director of Training for a Professional School. He is a licensed psychologist, licensed professional counselor, & licensed marital and family therapist. Dr. Morris is an MBA and has served on the board of directors of numerous health care and training and investment corporations in the private and public sector. Dr. Morris is a Senior Partner & charter member of the Board of Directors of CMHC, Inc.
