Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Kansas City was founded as a mission congregation north of the Missouri River in the wake of the rapid residential expansion that followed the end of World War II. From the humble beginnings of that first service, May 15, 1951, in the auditorium at North Kansas City High School, to its celebration of 60 years since incorporation, one thing remains constant: the Word of God has been at work, creating and sustaining faith in those who come to Holy Cross to hear and be spiritually fed for eternal life.
Our heavenly Father has brought a harvest of souls according to His pleasure, and we believe that He has promised to continue His blessing on us as a congregation as long as we remain faithful to His charge to preach the Word faithfully and administer the Sacraments in accord with Christ's institution. As a confessional Lutheran congregation of the Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod, we have pledged our commitment to uphold the Scriptures in their clear, plain sense to be the inspired and revealed Word of God, and the only rule and norm of church doctrine. As Lutherans we are convinced that the Lutheran Confessions sets forth the true and correct teaching of the Scriptures. This foundation, God willing, will never depart from our Lord's Church until Christ returns on the Last Day.
No matter what other activities we may do, missions that we may commence, or services that we may provide, this one commitment to the truth of God's Word will be our refuge and strength, and we pray that it will be your inspiration, too.
