Pellin's Sealcoat antiskid and durability properties is really " common sense". Because sealcoating should incorporate some form of antiskid property. New asphalt is rough and porous. Even when wet it still provides traction for people. When almost any sealcoating is applied, it is like icing on a cake; it can look nice but create a smooth coating. But then when water is present it may become a hazardous surface coating offering little or no traction to pedestrians.
In Sealcoating an antiskid agent is incorporated, by taking a Basic Mix that then adding silica sand that will meet the ASTM antiskid requirements if added in the correct quantities. So a basic mix would be at 7 on the quality scale above. As illustrated, the rate can be varied in a mix with the anti-skid agent. To bring perspective to the issue, lets see what the ASTM standard calls for; "-- shall be a blend equal to four to six pounds per gallon ... but at no time shall the amount exceed 10% of the total in the slurry."
Now if we use our quality scale we will obtain several different quality ratings all in the Slurry Mix category. The dark charcoal black color of Pellin Sealcoating improves the appearance of new and old asphalt pavements. Pavements look cleaner because rainfall washes dirt and debris easily from the non-porous surface. Traffic lines remain more visible.
