First State Bank and Trust Company, Inc. is participating in the FDICs Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Under that program, through December 31, 2010, all noninterest-bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. NOW accounts with interest rates higher than 0.25 percent do not qualify as noninterest-bearing transaction accounts and are not eligible for the guarantee. Coverage under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program is in addition to and separate from the coverage available under the FDICs general deposit insurance rules.
On July 21, 2010, FDIC deposit insurance permanently raised the current standard maximum deposit insurance amount (SMDIA) to $250,000. The FDIC insurance coverage limit applies per depositor, per insured depository institution for each account ownership category.
