Acupuncture is one of the primary therapeutic techniques in traditional Chinese medicine. Acupuncture is an over 2,500 years old ancient technique originated from China, with which a skilled acupuncture physician or practitioner inserts hair-thin needles into specific points on the body to prevent or treat illness.
Although acupuncture is well-known in China, it wasn’t until 1971 that Americans really became aware of it. It was an article in New York Times then reported its journalist James Reston for his own experience in China that acupuncture successfully relieved him from post-surgical pain when he was stricken with appendicitis while in Beijing.
