Come play Hole #5, now known as "The Beast"'One of the longest holes in the country'
Sun Valley Golf Course, designed be noted Architect Gary Kern has been a golf favorite since opening in 1988. Sun Valley rolls out over 200 acres of gentle elevation changes on the front 9 to unbelievable heights and views on the back 9. Playing golf at Sun Valley is quite a journey in playing the shots, seeing the natural beauty and enjoying the quiet countryside. It's definitely worth the drive and what you don't get out of your golf score, you will take home in solidarity.
New for 2010 is the transformation of hole #5 from a 561 yard par 5 to a 720 yard par 6 now known as "The Beast". The hole will feature an elevated tee box playing to a guarded landing area with creeks crossing the fairway at 200 yards and at 260 yards from the tee. A large tree positioned in the middle of the fairway will humble the straight knockers as well. OB lines the left side the entire length of the hole. The second shot will be up hill to a fairway slanting right to left. The third shot will be the same long shot with wildlife areas to the right. Hopefully you will be within striking distance of the green. Your fourth shot will be to an elevated green that is wide and short in depth. This hole could be tough....it will be tough.
When Gary Kern and I were laying out the hole, Gary started to smile, chuckled and said, "I like this, I really like this, you know, this could be the new signature hole on the course" but he quickly corrected himself and said, "you know I don't believe in signature holes" with a humble smile.
